I had the amazing opportunity to help out for a few days with some horses in a tour riding stable in Hurghada (Egypt). One of the geldings had developed a bad habit of throwing his head up in the canter, nocking riders in the head, which was starting to become dangerous for the clients. After working with him on the ground it was time to get up and train bitless. My experience is that so many problems disappear when that piece of metal is taken out from the horse’s mouth. Together with his owner we discussed and tried out different bitless options. When I found what was right for him he instantly changed. Unfortunately, I had to leave and he needed some more training in order to not get too strong during the desert rides, after all, he is a hotblooded Arabian! So after I while the owners had to go back to the bit, especially when tourists with little experience had to ride him. I want to add here that I am not against using bit, a bitless bridle can be as harmful to the horse when used by the wrong hands! But my experience is that most horses with bit-traumas (which are very common) will improve when changed to bitless and given the right training. I also had the opportunity to work with a few other horses in Hurghada, and I gave lessons to tree young men working there, which was a bit challenging but a great opportunity to learn and grow! Thank you, Charlott and Anastacia for your trust in me, hope to see you again!
